What are the sure signs it's New York Fashion Week?K: Suddenly, everyone cares about fashion!
T: You know it's New York Fashion Week when the streets are filled with gorgeous models from around the world.
What will you be wearing this season?K: I definitely will work in more color. Not that I will go full neon
but the bright colors are fun and great in moderation. I love blue
anyways so I am especially excited about the electric blue. I just
got a red coat from Barron Duquette that I plan on wearing for Fashion Week.
T: Belts of all shapes and sizes with everything! My Hermes Collier de Chien with YSL jackets and coats, Vintage Alaia corset belt with Oscar de la Renta dresses and black studded belt from Zadig et Voltair that I picked up in Paris with everything else.
What bag will you be carrying this season?K: It's all about the exotic! A nice croc or ostrich bag instantly makes
whatever you're wearing more chic. In fact, you can get away with
dressing way down!
T: A hot pink Nancy Gonzalez crocodile tote that Barbie would have killed for, Gerard Darel metallic python tote and a Tod's blue python tote.
What handbag do you expect to see a ton of in the tents?K: I think we will still get a lot of YSL, their bags continue to be
strong. And of course the old guards will still have their birkins.
I have learned to keep my birkin at home for Fashion Week.
T: YSL bags rule the tents.
What are the ideal characteristics for a fashion week handbag?K: Everyone is there to impress so do not bring last season's anything. Again, exotic, exotic, exotic!! And don't go matchy matchy with your outfit, strike out with a bright bold color that contrasts what you're wearing.
T: It's fashion week so the latest and greatest is a must. Must also be generously sized and lightweight, easy to tote.
What's always in your bag during fashion week?K: Camera, notebook, pen, smart phone and a well stocked cosmetic pouch.
T: iPhone (and charger), pen and notepad, bottle of water, a pair of ballet flats, wallet, make up bag (lip gloss, blush and powder), Advil (because late nights and early mornings don't mix well) and Airborne.
How many shows do you attend in a typical day? What is your blogging routine like?K: A busy day would be 4 or 5. In between shows, I like to meet people for drinks or visit showrooms so the blogging doesn't happen until night time, which means, after dinner and more drinks! Fun but
totally exhausting!
T: I pack in as many shows as I can, typically 5-6 depending on location. Last season many designers showed off site or had presentations in lieu of shows at the tents which made it difficult to make all the shows I wanted to. Generally we'll blog at the end of each day or early the next morning. We have a team of girls who pull photos for us and help get the entries ready.
This season Barbie will be celebrating her 50th birthday; do you
remember the first Barbie dolls you ever owned?K: I actually have never owned a Barbie. Now that my daughter is getting into it, I think I might make up for it by buying her everything!
T: Yes, I was given a Barbie with a pink Barbie van when I was 10 years old. The van had a rooftop pool deck, bunk beds, kitchen and bathroom. I wish I had that van during Fashion week!
What shows are you most looking forward to?K: Always, Oscar de la Renta and also Diane von Furstenberg because I wear a lot from her.
T: I am always excited to see Diane von Furstenberg because half of what I see on the runway ends up in my closet. Vera Wang is always my last show of the week. I do not leave until I see Vera! (I usually fly home right after the Vera show on Thursdays.) She always puts on a fabulous show! And last, but not least--Oscar de la Renta-- the golden ticket in town. No one makes beautiful clothes like the master.
